An OBIE-award winning play, written by
Children of a Lesser God author Mark Medoff,
When You Comin Back, Red Ryder? deals with the changes to the daily drudgery of life at a diner in a sleepy 1960s New Mexico rest stop town. An upscale tourist couple are enjoying their breakfast. A young waitress and fry cook are shooting the breeze. A home-spun gas station owner fills up the tanks of those passing through. Everything is business as usual until suspiciously friendly Vietnam veteran Teddy and a young hippie cast-off arrive. What results is a messy situation involving drugs, guns, and emotional torture, with everyone questioning who are the hostages and who are the terrorists. It's not just a fight between Teddy and the diner patrons, but between generations and classes, where past collides with present.
